Jewish Museum Buenos Aires

Fran and I made a visit to the Jewish Museum and Synagogue in BA, just a short walk from our hotel near the iconic obelisk.  I was mostly interested in any Sephardic items from the 16th century when the conversos (Judaizantes) fled Spainduring the inquisition.  They ostensibly converted to Catholicism but secretly remained Jewish.

Most of the exhibits were from the Ashkinazi Jews who fled Spain for Northern Europe, mostly Poland, but then came to Argentina in the early 19th century when many European Jews migrated to the Americas, especially the USA and Canada, but truly all over the New World.

A lot of the exhibits were artworks, but many Sifrei Torah (handwritten scrolls of the Pentatuech and other scrolls such as the Megillah of Esther (IFKYK). There was a kittel (white robe worn during the High Holy Days) and a number of yadim (pointers for keepiing place while reading the Torah so you don't accidently smudge it).  There were a number of miniature books that were easy to hide and some Talmuds as well.  Anyway, here are some images.
