Montevideo

As part of our Antarctica trip we spent part of a day in Uruguay. It is a beautiful, peaceful country that I only knew as the place across the river from Argentina. But we docked in the capital Montevideo and went out to a winery. It was a very beautiful vinyard and processing facility on the site of an 1888 manor built by Diego Pons, one of the fathers of the Uruguayan wine industry. While they produce a Cabernet and the typical white wines, I was introduced to the Tannat grape which I found delicious.
Here are a few pictures of our day. The scenery was beautiful, the city was clean, the people were friendly, the vineyard was impressive, especially the meal they served and all in all it was a great day.
